You’ll find most of this information on the Department of Small and Family Business website, but to be honest, I haven’t found the business.sa.gov.au site to be overly easy to navigate. To alleviate some frustration, I have laid out some basic information in this post.
For small businesses looking for a boost with either financial or coaching assistance, you’ll find some useful information on the Grants Programs page and the Mentoring and Coaching page, courtesy of business.sa.gov.au.
Adelaide and Regional SA Grant Programs
There are a number of South Australian Government programs to help you develop and grow your small business. Here’s a short list of some of them:
Research and Innovation Fund
The RIF has been implemented to assist researchers and businesses to fast track their progress with government funding. This is a grants program, available only to businesses with the proven potential for high growth and assists with project delivery requirements to:
- significantly increase revenue
- export income growth
- increase in employment (local)
- other benefits of a social nature to SA
Grant funding varies between $50,000 and $500,000 with either 2:1 or 1:1 matched funding requirement and incorporates the Seed-Start Program
For detailed information, visit the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science website and their Seed-Start Program page.
While there are a few other grants such as the See It LIVE Event Grant and the Venue Improvement Grant, these are currently close due to an overwhelming demand and a full subscription.
All in all, there doesn’t appear to be much in the way of support for Adelaide and Regional South Australia small businesses. Much of the available funding is current for larger companies with significantly higher turnover.
Adelaide and Regional SA Business Mentoring Programs
Small business mentoring and coaching programs, on the other hand are still currently more plentiful.
South Australian Young Entrepreneurs Scheme
There are two streams under this banner: the Metro and the Regional programs. The Metro Program is for Adelaide metro area residents who are aged between 18-35. Regional applicants need to be aged 18 and over.
The scheme was implemented to help young Adelaide and regional SA entrepreneurs develop their business concepts or newly established business into a tangible, sustainable reality. Visit the Business SA website for more information.
Business Growth Program
The Business Growth Program is a suite of programs for eligible SA companies. Partial subsidies are available for South Australian business owners and executive management of companies with 5-199 employees. There are four components within the programs:
