Exciting Update for the Qld Business Basics Grant

With the success of Round 3 of the Qld Business Basics Grant, albeit a work in progress with its own administration issues, the Qld Govt has stood by its intent to launch round 4 before the end of 2022.

To address the issues of the previous rounds, the application process will be launched in 2 stages. This is great news for many Qld small businesses planning to apply, as the additional layer will help remove some of the chaff and reduce applications that do not fit the selection criteria. Here’s a brief history of the previous rounds.

What Round 4 Looks Like

There are two stages to the application process:
Stage 1: Registration of Interest (ROI) opens 24th November 2022
Stage 2: Full applications opens 12 December 2022 (selected ROI applicants only)

There are also two funding streams based upon the Local Government Area (LGA) of your business. The two areas are:

  1. South East Queensland
  2. Regional Queensland

The funding bucket for South East Qld is significantly larger than Regional Qld, most likely due to the larger volume of businesses in SE QLD.

$5000 to spend on your business.

Applicants can apply for funding in one of five priorities:

  1. Training and coaching
  2. Website build/upgrades (adding e-commerce, new website content)
  3. Professional business advice
  4. Strategic marketing services (search engine optimisation advice)
  5. Business continuity and succession

Who can apply, and what are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible to apply for this grant, the business must:

  • have fewer than 20 employees (by headcount)
  • be operating and have an active Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • be registered for GST
  • have a Queensland headquarters and an operating address in the relevant funding stream
  • have an expected turnover of $300,000 or less for the current financial year
  • not have been approved for funding under an earlier round of Business Basics
