Pro Tip – When comparing which web design agency in Australia to use for a new or updated site, ALWAYS ask what SEO is included in their standard pricing. Most will only give you the absolute minimum and you still won’t rank well on Google unless you upgrade your SEO package.
Web Design Australia – What to Expect
Web Design Step 1 - Discovery
Common Questions
Do we need to meet prior to quoting on my site?
No, however we will need to have an indepth discussion about your business. We’ll need to learn as much about your business as possible before submitting our proposal. Once we’ve spoken, we’ll do our own research and obtain as much relevant information as possible to help us provide you with the best possible solutions.
How do I give you the information for the Website Design Brief?
Once you’ve decided to go ahead with our proposal, we’ll send you a comprehensive questionnaire that will enable us to commence your web design project.
Web Design Step 2 - Design and Build
Common Questions
I have no web design concept at all, can you help me?
Absolutely, we can provide great visual suggestions based on your industry and business goals.
What’s involved in the design and build phase?
Discovery
- Development of a sitemap and interactive prototype so that all functionalities can be tested and approved in the browser.
Design
- Design of website user experience and user interface to allow the target audience to easily navigate and use the website to achieve their needs.
Development
- Development of working website on the WordPress or Shopify platform.
Testing
- Final testing and debugging on development server to ensure site is fully functional.
Will my website be mobile responsive?
We take particular care to ensure our sites are mobile responsive on both mobile phones and tablets.
Do you write website content?
Yes, in fact most of our web design and builds contain some elements of content written by us, even if you have provide all the content yourself.
We know what works with search engine optimisation (SEO), therefore we’ll usually add our own content to further enhance your site for optimal Google search engine results page (SERP) ranking.
If you don’t have any of your own content, don’t worry, we can write your entire website’s content if needed.
Do you outsource your website design?
No, we do all design work in-house.
Web Design Step 3 - Review
Common Questions
What input do I have during this phase?
We’ll be updating you along the way and we’ll give you access to your staged site to see how it’s progressing. And remember, we’re only a phone call away.
How many changes am I entitled to?
Generally, we allow for up to 2 changes per section. You can change your mind as many times as you like, however standard hourly charges will apply.
Why is WordPress your preferred platform?
Well, WordPress is great for clients to maintain without knowing any coding. Although daunting for some in the initial setup phase, it really is quite easy to use. And it’s so versatile, you can build just about anything with it.
One of our goals in web design is to build sites that our clients can edit if they choose to do so. Many competing website platforms claim to have amazing drag and drop editors that make building your own website a breeze, however they are generally weak in SEO functionality and have very limited web design capabilities.
The thing we like most about WordPress is that it’s SEO friendly. Search engines really, really like WordPress. It optimises well straight out of the box, however you can get some great plugins to make it even more awesome.
WordPress is also a great eCommerce platform, utilising the popular WooCommerce plugin. Having said that, we use either WooCommerce or Shopify when designing eCommerce sites.
Web Design Step 4 - Handover
Common Questions
Will you maintain my website?
Of course we can maintain your website. Although we design our sites for easy editing and maintenance by the owner, we can also look after all the back end biz for you. We’re happy to discuss our maintenance plans at any stage of our journey together.
What about website hosting?
We’re more than happy to host your website through our WordPress Managed Host and can bundle your hosting with our website care plans. Essentially, we provide ‘set and forget’ options that will remove any concerns about keeping your site live and up to date.
Of course, you can source your own web host, we’ll ensure your site is transferred to that host during launch.
Web Design FAQs
SEO Basic vs SEO Advanced
Not all Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the same.
Generally speaking, most SEO agencies provide the following Basic SEO inclusions:
- SEO plugin such as Yoast
- Page title – what you see in you browser tab
- Page layout – headings (h1,h2 etc) and paragraphs
- Meta Title and Meta Description – what you see on a Google search engine results page (SERP)
- Page speed reporting
On Page SEO goes further than what is generally provided. Ask your SEO agency to include the below optimisations, it’ll be well worth the extra cost and effort:
- All of the Basic SEO inclusions
- Content keyword optimisation
- Heading keyword optimsation
- Image alt text optimisation
- Image size optimisation
- Google Indexing
How long does it take to design and build a website
How long will my web site take to rank on Page 1 of Google
If you’ve had a budget website built somewhere else with minimal SEO input, it’s quite likely your site will never see the light of day. Having said that, if your website has been adequately designed and optimised for SEO, you may see some positive results within a few months.
It’s not all about kewords and the ‘red light, green light’ of SEO software plugins in terms of how quickly you will rank well on Google, it’s much deeper than that.
Your page content is absolutely critical, as poorly written content stuffed with keywords and phrases may result in your site being penalised and displayed lower on Google Search Engine results.
Remember, it’s almost certain that your competition have an SEO strategy in place, so chances are your keyword SERPs may take a while to gain traction.
The reality is that an effective SEO strategy is something that must be done ASAP. In my blog Why SEO is Crucial for Small Businesses, I wrote that;
Search Engine Optimisation is an INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE
It’s worth a read, I’m confident it will shine a brighter light on the relationship between a good web design and an effective SEO strategy.
